AN environmentalist, Mr Johnson Abang, has advised Nigerians to always wash their hands to control the spread of infections.
Abang gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Bwari.
Hand washing is an act of of cleaning one’s hands with the use of water or soap for the purpose of removing soil, dirt or microorganisms.
Abang said that failure to practice hand washing often contributed to the spread of communicable diseases.
The environmentalist said poor hygiene was the cause of the spread of diseases.
“Hand washing is the key to fighting diseases, even maternal and infant mortality,” Abang said.
According to him, hand washing could protect people from droplet and airborne diseases, such as measles, chickenpox, influenza, and tuberculosis.
Abang urged people to always wash their hands regularly to prevent themselves from infections that could result from handshake or poor hygiene.
“People must take care of their health and make sure that they stay healthy and also wash their hands as required for good hygiene.
“Washing of hands can help reduce infections in the family, reduce polio, diarrhea and cholera, which one can get infected by lack of good personal hygiene, particularly hand washing.
“Washing of hands before and after eating and after going to toilet is key to reducing disease infections,” the environmentalist said.
