Gunmen kill businessman in Bauchi

Gunmen believed to be kidnappers have shot and killed a 40 years old man, Tasiu Abdulkareem Tilde, while attempting to kidnap him.

Information from Tilden Fulani village, 100 kilometres away from Bauchi close to Jos has it that the late Tasiu Abdulkareem popularly called ‘Mai Kemisi’ was attacked by the gunmen whose number cannot be ascertained while in his Patent Medicine store in Tilden Fulani Tuesday evening.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the gunmen entered the area shooting sporadically to scare people away as they attempted to carry out their criminal activity a development which made people to scampered to safety from the gunshots.

It was in the process that the late Tasiu was shot and killed while the gunmen ran away having missed their target of kidnap.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, Bauchi State Police Command through the PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili, said that the incident happened in the evening of Tuesday when the gunmen stormed the village shooting indiscriminately to scare people away.

Ahmed Wakili said that “some yet to be identified gunmen stormed Tilden Fulani in Toro LGA on Tuesday, their main mission was to kidnap their target who was one Tasiu Abdulkareem Tilde who was operating his business in the area.”

The gunmen according to the PPRO tried to take their victim away but he resisted and in the process, he was shot in the chest several times as the gunmen escaped from the scene of the incident.

Ahmed Wakili added that “a good Samaritan put a distress call through to our patrol team in the area which immediately mobilized to the scene of the incident but before they got there, the suspected kidnappers had fled leaving their victim in a pool of blood.”

“The patrol team immediately evacuated the said Tasiu to the nearest Toro General Hospital where on arrival, a Medical Doctor on duty certified him dead. The investigation is ongoing to apprehend the suspects.”

In the same, another attempt was made in another area, Tudun Danbiram in the same Tilden Fulani when unknown gunmen at about 1 am forced themselves into the compound of one trying to gain entrance into the main room.

According to the PPRO, a good samaritan made a distress call to the Police and some personnel with members of the multi-security task force were immediately drafted to the area and engaged to bandits in a gun duel during which some of them were wounded but managed to escape.

The PPRO then called on people in the area to continue to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies in a move to secure the area and apprehend the criminals operating in the area.

He further appealed to the people to immediately report to the nearest Police station or any point of the Multisecurity Taskforce operating in the area any person with gunshot wounds for immediate action.

In recent times, Toro LGA has witnessed series of kidnapping activities and another banditry which has led to the loss of lives and ransom, this led to a protest by residents of Takandan Giwa village last weekend blocking a federal highway for hours thereby disrupting traffic flow.
