Gunmen kill 10 in Birnin Gwari

GUNMEN suspected to be herdsmen unleashed terror on two villages in Birnin Gwari Local Government of Kaduna State killing 10 villagers, while scores of others sustained injuries.

It was learnt that the survivors were rushed to Birnin Gwari General Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The attack by the armed herdsmen occurred in Dangaji village and Ungwan Gajere on Friday night and lasted till the early hours of Saturday morning.
Source also told the Nigerian Tribune that the hoodlums were said to have burnt down homes of the villagers as some of the inhabitants flew to safer communities.
“It is unfortunate that on Friday night we encountered the attack of herdsmen in the village of Dangaji. After they penetrated the village they came into other places and burnt our houses,” the source declared.
“This early morning (Saturday), they went to another village, Kutemechi in Unguwan Gajere where the herdsmen entered into the community where they killed about nine men,” he said.
According to him, “after they burnt the villagers houses, the last victim was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he died on the way to the hospital.”
“Right now, all the villagers have fled and scattered into other communities where they can find shelter.”
It was also gathered that a week ago, about three people were said to have been kidnapped in Dangaji village, the people in the community were asked to pay 6 million naira as a ransom for their release.
The eyewitness said: “It was after the incident that the herdsmen now attacked the village and killed 10 people. Many people have been taken to the general hospital in Birnin Gwari Local Government.
He said the military reinforcement tried to get to the affected areas, but before they could get there the herdsmen have disappeared.
As at the time of filing this report, the Police Command PPRO, Muktar Husseini could not be reached for confirmation.
