Gunmen abduct Octogenarian in Ondo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday evening abducted a 82-year-old woman, Chief Mrs Alice Fadeni, at Okeriota area, Ode aye in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that the armed men invaded the residence of the woman around 8 pm and dragged the woman into a waiting vehicle, while the residents of the area ran for cover.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen invaded the residence and started searching for Mrs Fadeni, the mother of a popular businessman in the community, and forced the woman into their vehicle.

He said the kidnappers collected the handset of their victim and zoomed off from the area, saying I don’t know if they left with any other valuables before they left.

“The zoomed off shooting sporadically into the air to avoid being stopped while residents of the town ran for safety over the fear of a stray bullet.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, CSP Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the investigation had commenced on the incident.

He said: “We are aware of the abduction of the old woman and we have started an investigation, we already on the trail of the bandits.”

Meanwhile, the member of the House of Representatives representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, Hon Gboluga Ikengboju, condemned the abduction of Mrs Fadeni, the mother of Mr Sehinde Fadeni, a businessman, in Ode-Aye, Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State.

Ikengboju in a statement signed by his media assistant, Israel Fagbemigun, described the abduction of Mrs Fadeni as a fallout of the state of insecurity in the state and country at large.

The lawmaker called on President Mohammadu Buhari and Governor Rotimi Rotimi Akeredolu to take fresh decisive decisions in addressing the rising state of insecurity in the country and state.

He said: “The news of the abduction of Chief Mrs Alice Fadeni is yet another sad and unfortunate development in our society.”

“It is a fallout of the level of Insecurity in our country and state. more worrisome is the fact that we are all either immediate or prospective victims, as no one is totally safe in reality.”

“I call on our good governor, Rotimi Akeredolu and President Mohammadu Buhari to take fresh decisive decisions in addressing the challenge of rising Insecurity in our state and country.”

He urged security agencies to move into action for the unconditional release of the Octogenarian and bring the perpetrators to book.
