Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has said the names of beneficiaries of allotted plots of land at the controversial Kano Polytechnic premises with structures marked for demolition would be published and alleged that more than 70% of the plots of land were allotted to the wife of the immediate past governor, Dr Hafsat Ganduje and the children.
The state government alleged that more than 70 per cent of the plots of land were allocated to the wife of the immediate past governor, Dr Hafsat Ganduje and the children.
However, as the action is generating a lot of controversy, most of the owners of buildings on the lands said they acquired the Certificate of Occupancy and building approvals from the government.
While already, house owners on the purported land have been sending emissaries to the governor not to demolish their properties worth billions of naira according to them at a news conference on Saturday.
Most of the buildings on the said lands have been marked for demolition with the perimeter fences of some of the buildings already demolished by the state government task force.
According to Governor Yusuf, ” That pace belongs to the masses. Instead of building hostels, lecture theatres, and sports complexes for the benefit of students, rather they converted the lands for their personal use,’’
‘’I can rest assured you that we would make it what it was and for the benefit of the people.’’
‘’There are some personalities making noise over the move to demolish the illegal structures at the place, but surprisingly, most of them were part of the beneficiaries of the allocation of the land. We would publish all their names for people to understand what is happening.’’
The governor said that so many schools land was allotted for personal and some individual benefits just like the one with the burning issue presently.
Abba Yusuf added that it is disappointing that as a governor Ganduje swore to an oath of office and allegiance to protect the rights of the people he was governing but sadly, he was the one championing conversion of the rights of the people for personal interest.
He noted that while he has also sworn to protect the rights of the people as the governor of the state, he would not allow the injustice against the people to go without remediation.
In a related development, the National Commission for the Mesuems, Kano State Government, said in an effort to restore the beauty of Kano walls as designed has planned to reconstruct the walls in the old Kano city with the debris of the demolished sites.
This was stated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf while inspecting some of the demolished sites in the Kano metropolis.
Governor Yusuf stated this in a statement made available to pressmen by his Chief Press Secretary Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa maintained that debris from the demolished sites will be used to reconstruct the walls.
He also warned that “People who have no any business are not needed to be seen at the demolition sites and the police and men of Nigeria Security and Civil Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been mandated to man the sites and guarded it against intruders”.
“All those who are not parties to the demolition exercise should stay away as security agencies will not hesitate to take appropriate actions against intruders and those who tend to be recalcitrants.”
“We went round the city to inspect the demolished sites and we decided to use the debris of the demolished sites to rehabilitate Kano city walls to preserve history, beautify Kano and make it a site of attraction as a national monument,” the governor added.
The Governor called on the people of the state to continue to be law-abiding and report any suspicious movement to the security agencies for continuous peace and stability in our dear state Kano.
