In a bid to foster stronger bonds and make tangible impacts on communities in Nigeria, Good Deeds Donation Hub Africa, a local and international social impact organization, hosts a remarkable Thrift Fair in August of 2023.
Good Deeds is a Nigerian Donation Hub that collects and handles donated items (clothes, shoes, household goods, etc.) professionally. These items are donated to communities or sold as thrift items. Olawunmi Olasoju, the Founder, and the Good Deeds team have worked to ensure the system of donating and decluttering becomes a thing in Nigeria, as donation kiosks/boxes have been built to allow for unsupervised clothing drop-offs in common locations or residential areas. Good Deeds has also expanded to 15 states around Nigeria and onboarded 400+ volunteers, making an impact in their communities.
“The Thrift Fair centers on donation drives as there is no professional or established system of collecting items for donations in Nigeria and some people still feel the stigma of giving their items or superstitions about bad things happening – so we want Good Deeds Donation Hub Africa to serve as a professional connection for donors and the community – These donations are for the benefit of all!” said Olawunmi Olasoju, the Founder. Olawunmi is a 24 year old entrepreneur, engineer and consultant. She has made strides in the global space while living in the US and growing one of Nigeria’s rising ventures – Good Deeds Donation HUB Africa, with 400+ volunteers, participating in multiple states and 4 innovative Item donation boxes built.
The fair offers attendees a unique opportunity to extend their generosity by contributing a wide array of essential items. These encompass clothing, school supplies, books, hygiene products, furniture etc.
“The Thrift Fair is a unique opportunity for individuals from all walks of life to come together and actively participate in the noble cause of helping others. Good Deeds as a social impact organization has consistently demonstrated its commitment to making a positive impact on our society, by organizing or collaborating on events that brings communities closer, while contributing to the betterment of lives” Grace Fadejin, a volunteer added. “Our journey has been one interwoven with empathy, service, and a commitment to transformative experiences for everyone, including the needy and well to do. People have been able to declutter their homes for healthier living and others have been able to collect items they like or saw as a bargain…” articulates Olawunmi.
Abdullahi Ahmed Atewe, a participant at the fair believed that “Through the auspices of this trade fair, the organizers have been able to create an enduring platform that allows individuals to not only contribute to profoundly meaningful causes, but also cultivate an environment for voluntary giving, networking, and the inspiration that causes a sustainable change in Nigeria.”
With its unwavering dedication to item donations and a reduction in community waste, the Good Deeds Community and Thrift Fair has served as a potent commitment to the organization’s core mission of empowering a more resourceful environment, through donations and community networking.
