The Gombe State chapter of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) has alerted the general public and party members to a clandestine and unauthorised meeting being planned in Gombe by certain individuals who are neither recognised members of the party nor hold any position within its structure.
The alarm was raised in a statement by Amb. Engr. M. Abdulkadir Kumo, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Gombe State Chairman of the SDP, titled: RE: Clarification on Fake Appointment and Clandestine Meeting in Gombe.
According to him, “Our intelligence gathering has confirmed that these individuals intend to meet under false pretences to celebrate the fake and self-declared appointment of Dr Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as National Deputy Chairman (North) of the SDP.”
He stressed, “Let it be reiterated in strong terms: the Social Democratic Party did not issue, approve, or recognise such an appointment. It is fake, illegitimate, and should be disregarded entirely.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr Sadiq Abubakar Gombe is not a registered member of the SDP. Available party records show that he was last affiliated with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the previous general elections,” he clarified.
Abdulkadir Kumo added, “There is no documentation or official communication indicating his return to the SDP, and as such, he lacks any standing within our party.”
He emphasised, “Additionally, it is important to state that the alleged convener of this meeting formally exited the party in 2024, while Rev John Nwarke, another individual associated with the gathering, left the SDP in 2022 after our national convention.”
“These individuals, and others involved in this charade, are not recognised members of our party. Their actions are therefore null, void, and politically mischievous,” he declared.
The media aide stressed, “We are convinced this desperate move is part of a broader agenda orchestrated by political elements determined to sow confusion, create distraction, and provoke an internal crisis within the SDP. However, they will fail, as our members remain resolute, our leadership firm, and our direction clear.”
“The general public is hereby advised to disregard any congratulatory messages, press statements, or meetings associated with this fake appointment. Such actions do not reflect the position of the SDP and are not authorised by the national or state leadership,” he added.
According to him, “The Social Democratic Party remains focused, united, and committed to delivering a strong and credible alternative to Nigerians. As we continue to gain the trust of the people, we will not be distracted by impostors and agents of disunity.”
He further stressed, “We reaffirm our readiness and strategic preparation towards victory in the 2027 general elections and pledge to defend the integrity of our party against any internal or external sabotage.”
