Gombe governor establishes council on prerogative of mercy

Gombe State Governor,  Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has issued an executive order for the establishment of the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

As contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the governor, this is pursuant to the powers conferred on him by provisions of the Prerogative of Mercy law.

The Executive Order, dated 18th December 2019 reads in part: “pursuant to the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Gombe State Prerogative of Mercy Law, 1998 and all other powers enabling me in that behalf,  I, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya,  Governor of Gombe state do hereby establish the Gombe State Prerogative of Mercy Advisory Council “.

The Council has as its Chairman,  the Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Zubair Muhammad Umar.

Other Members of the Committee are: State Controller of Correctional Services or his representative, A Police Officer not below the rank of Superintendent as representative of the Police Commissioner and the Representative of the Directorate of State Service (DSS).

The remaining members are; Dr Muazu Shuaibu, Medical Director,  Gombe Specialist Hospital, Sheikh Adamu Ardo,

Reverend Sunday Kongo, Hajiya Farida Sulaiman, Mrs Margaret Yusuf and  Barr. Abdussalam Muhd, Acting Director,  Public Prosecutions.
