Dr Godwin Ehigiamusoe has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of LAPO Microfinance Bank.
Tribune Online gathered that Ehigiamusoe succeeds Mrs Osaretin Demuren, who provided excellent leadership for the institution, particularly in consolidating the microfinance bank’s position as a leader in the sub-financial sector.
In a statement issued by the company, it was stated that Dr Godwin brings to the role his extensive experience and institutional memory, which will be of immense benefit to LAPO Microfinance Bank and national financial inclusion efforts.
The statement described him as an acknowledged microfinance practitioner who has, for over three decades, pioneered several initiatives that have contributed to expanding the frontiers of finance in Nigeria and beyond.
According to the statement, in the late 1980s, he initiated Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) as a non-governmental response to the surge in poverty following the implementation of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP).
It noted that LAPO has since evolved into a group of mutually reinforcing institutions spanning microfinance, healthcare, insurance, micro-leasing, technology, and agriculture.
Ehigiamusoe, who holds a doctorate in policy and development studies with a focus on policy instruments and financial inclusion, is a chartered microfinance banker and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.
