For those who believe that God blesses the land of His people, there is a sense of responsibility that should come with this belief. God’s special blessings are usually covenant blessings. A covenant is a formal agreement between two parties that states both privileges/benefits and duties/responsibilities on both sides. Thus, it is presumptuous to expect God’s blessings while refusing to accept any responsibilities. It is those responsibilities that convey value to the world, and bring glory to the God who blesses His people. God said to Abraham:
Genesis 12: 2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.
So, a major responsibility that God places upon blessed people is that they must in turn be a blessing. If we truly believe that God has blessed us, then we must use those blessings to help others. We must work to create a society that reflects God’s love and compassion, where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We must use our resources to help those in need, to care for the sick, the poor, and the marginalized. In short, we must be the hands and feet of God in the world. God will not come down physically, it is through human agency that He executes most of His plans on the earth. Those whom He blesses (especially beneficiaries of His covenant blessings) are always required to act for God, so to say, on earth. For example, God specifically sent Prophet Micah to announce this requirement to the people of Israel:
Micah 6: 8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
Of course, it can be challenging to live up to the high standard set by God. We are all human, and we fall short of perfection again and again. However, even if we cannot yet attain perfection, we should at least strive towards it. Meanwhile, the beauty of belief in God (and in the fact that God blesses His people) is that it provides us with a constant source of inspiration and motivation. It reminds us that we are part of something greater than ourselves, and that in living up to our responsibility to use our blessings to make the world a better place, we are positioning ourselves for even greater blessings.
In conclusion, the belief that God blesses the land of His people is a powerful and inspiring concept. It reminds us of the goodness and generosity of God, and of our responsibility to use our blessings to help others. This belief is a source of hope and inspiration for believers in every nation. May we all strive to live up to the high standard set by our benevolent God, and may we always use our blessings to make the world a better place. Amen.
