The competition was organised by the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers [NSME], during which students of Mining Engineering and related disciplines from universities and polytechnics across the country were assessed.
Dr Ebenezer Damisa, the president, Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers, signed the letter of award on behalf of the society.
Salami was awarded the Inuwa Gombe Prize, which comprised a plaque, certificate and a cash prize of N100,000 at the opening ceremony of the 17th Annual General Meeting/International Conference of Mining Engineers in Kaduna on Thursday, November 9.
Presenting his plaque to the vice chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape, Salami, a First Class graduate, attributed his success to the training he acquired during his studentship in FUTA.
“I thank God for my teachers and the qualitative education I received during my stay here. FUTA is indeed a blessing to my academic endeavours,” he said.
The vice chancellor commended Salami on the remarkable feat, describing it as an honour well deserved.
He said, “FUTA is proud of you. I believe by the grace of God, you will go globa;, the sky is the limit.”
He described the prize as another attestation of FUTA’s position as the country’s leading university of technology.
