FUOYE begins two-week digital skills training for students

The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has commenced a special two-week digital training for students of the institution, aiming to tap into the opportunities in the technology space.

The training includes 300 final-year students, who will be exposed to skills such as web design, digital marketing, social media proficiency, audio and video editing, among other training and innovations in the tech industry.

Speaking during the opening session on Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Fasina, explained that the institution initiated the free training in response to the growing opportunities and potential for youths in the digital space. He was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tajudeen Opoola, who mentioned that the training, through the Directorate of Education Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, is aimed at producing graduates who can provide solutions to societal problems using technology.

He stated that engaging students in digital skills would help keep them occupied and away from unprofitable ventures, providing them with the opportunity to make money and be financially independent through these skills. The resource persons for the training were sourced internally within the institution, who are tested professionals and experts in the digital and technology sector.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the university’s commitment to improving education standards, combining online and physical learning based on the number of students they have at the moment.

He emphasized the importance of ICT training, both in Nigeria and across the world, to enhance the students’ eagerness to learn. He also advised the students to refrain from using social media and other digital platforms to project negativity about the institution, assuring them that any concerns regarding digital platforms would be addressed through the training.

Dr. Olabimpe Esan, the Director, mentioned that the training aims to equip students with modern-day digital skills, allowing them to be digitally savvy and compete with their contemporaries worldwide.
