FUNAAB to honour AfDB’s president Adesina, Prof Okojie, Prof Adu

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) is set to honour President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, and two former Vice-Chancellors of the institution, Prof. Julius Okojie and Prof. Israel Adu.

Head, FUNAAB Directorate of Public Relations (DPR), Dr Linda Onwuka, stated this in a news release made available to journalists on Wednesday.

She said the conferment of honours are part of activities lined up to commemorate the institution’s 27th convocation ceremony on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Onwuka said AfDB’s Adesina, a former Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development would be conferred with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science while academic titles of Emeritus Professorship would be conferred on Prof. Adu and Prof. Okojie who is also a former Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC).

The statement added that award of academic and honorary degrees will hold on same day.

Other activities lined up for the ceremony would begin with a Jumat Service, a theatre performance and a film show titled, “The Boy that Harnessed the Wind” by ‘Tunde Kelani on Friday, January 24, 2020.

Others include an inter-denominational Church Service on Sunday, January 26, 2020, while the convocation press conference, the commissioning of projects and the research and agricultural fair would hold on Monday, January 27, 2020.

The institution’s convocation lecture, titled “The Beast Unburdened Once Again: Artificial Intelligence and Life More Abundant”, will be delivered by renowned media guru and Executive Director, The Nation newspapers, Prof. Adebayo Williams, on Monday under the Chairmanship of Prof. Ayoade Ogunkunle of the Department of Agronomy, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
