The Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria (FTAN) has given certificates of return to it executive to serve the federation for another tenure of two years as delegates at the 26th AGM FTAN pass vote of confidence for them to remain unopposed.
This was in view of the immense teamwork and the vibrant approach to activate different collaborative effort to not only reposition but also set the tone for seamless agenda setting platform to engage the public and private sector participation in driving tourism agenda to better Nigerian economy.
The executive returned unopposed are President, Nkereuwem Onung, 1st Deputy President- Alhaji Badaki Aliyu, 2nd Deputy President-Susan Akporiaye, Vice President, FCT-Alh. Yunusa Mohammed, Vice President, South/West-Mr Tunde Kolade, Vice President, South /East-Mr Odunayo Ogunyemi, Vice President, South/South-Mrs Justina Ovat, Vice President, North/East-Eze Patrick Anyanwu, Vice President – North – West, Dr Kabir Ali and Vice President – North – Central, Iyoryisa Susan.
Others include Teasurer, Mrs Funmi Kazeem, Financial Secretary-Mrs Ime Udo, Public Relations Officers (South),Mr Wale Olapade, Public Relations Officers (North), Mrs. Glory Okon, Membership Secretary 1, Obajimi Manuwa, Membership Secretary 2, Kemabonta Uloma Ibiwari, Membership Secretary 3, Gbenga Sunmonu and Internal Auditor,Emmanuel Okon.
Speaking after the presentation of certificate of return, the President of FTAN, Mr Nkereuwem Onung said “with immense gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility as I accept the honor of re-elected as the President of Private Sector Tourism in Nigeria. I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me and by the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of our vibrant tourism industry.
“I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the members and stakeholders who participated in this election process. Your support and confidence in my abilities have given me the strength to take on this vital role, and I promise to fulfill my duties with unwavering dedication and commitment.”
“Nigeria’s potential in the tourism sector is boundless. We boast breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and a warmth that embraces every visitor who graces our shores. As we embark on this journey together, I envision a future where Nigeria becomes a world-renowned tourism destination, attracting travelers from every corner of the globe.
However, we must recognize that success in this endeavor requires collective effort and a united vision. As the President of Private Sector Tourism, I vow to foster collaboration among industry players, government agencies, local communities, and international partners.
“Together, we can create a sustainable tourism ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders while preserving our natural and cultural treasures for generations to come.”
Onung assure all and sundry that his administration will prioritize several key areas to achieve shared goals with prioritized focus on collaboration.
“We will be promoting Nigerian destinations by partnering with NTDA for a comprehensive marketing campaigns to showcase the diverse attractions and experiences that our country has to offer. Also by highlighting lesser-known gems alongside popular destinations, we can distribute the benefits of tourism across various regions.
“Investing in Infrastructure is a key factor in sustainable tourism agenda, which help to improve visitors’ experience, so we will work closely with the government and private investors to upgrade transportation, accommodation, and essential facilities. Enhanced infrastructure will also open up new opportunities for tourism development.
“Our tourism initiatives /partnership will be community-driven, ensuring that local residents participate actively in the industry and directly benefit from its growth. Sustainable tourism practices will be at the core of our approach, aiming to preserve cultural authenticity and protect the environment.
“To elevate the quality of services across the sector, we will emphasize training and skill development programs for hospitality professionals, tour guides, and other tourism-related personnel,” Onung added.
In working the talk as part of the new FTAN agenda through advocacy for policy support, the FTAN boss promised to double his effort in the area of collaboration with the government to advocate for favorable policies, incentives and regulations that promote the growth of the private tourism sector.
“We understand the significance of safety and security in attracting tourists. Our administration will work diligently with relevant authorities to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors.
“Tourism Marketing/Insurance are also imperative the industry and with our TRIAC mandate, we attempt to create Insurance consciousness in our stakeholders as well as encourage Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) to do more in this area.
“ I stand before you as not just the President of Private Sector Tourism in Nigeria but as a passionate advocate for the transformative power of tourism.
“Together, let us seize this moment to build a thriving and sustainable tourism industry that enhances our national pride, creates jobs, fosters cultural exchange, and strengthens our economy.
“I call upon each one of you to join hands and work collaboratively towards realizing our shared vision. Together, we will write a new chapter in Nigerian tourism history—one that reflects the resilience, creativity, and warmth of our people.”
