As part of ongoing efforts to improve the socio-economic well-being of vulnerable members of the community, especially helpless women, a nongovernmental organisation, Shokesta Development Initiative, is set to empower no fewer than 100 widows in Ogun.
The event which will also commemorate the annual birthday celebration of the founder of the group, Ambassador Oluwakemi Soyebi popular known will take place on December 23, 2024, with distribution of food items and cash gifts.
Speaking during her visit to motherless babies in Ibadan, Ambassador Soyebi said this year’s event will focus on providing vital support to widows and ensuring they can better care for themselves and their families during the festive season.
“SHOKESTA has touched the lives of over 4,000 women, children, and youth across Nigeria. The organization’s focus on entrepreneurship, creativity, and leadership has empowered individuals to overcome social challenges and break the cycle of poverty.
“SHOKESTA has also been instrumental in organizing visits to orphanages and supporting widows, offering both financial aid and emotional support to those struggling with life’s challenges”.
“Since 2015, SHOKESTA has made it a tradition to bring joy and gifts to the babies in the home during the Christmas season. In 2019, SHOKESTA reached out to widows in Ibadan, offering them support through food, financial assistance, and emotional encouragement, helping them navigate the challenges of loss and hardship,” she said.
She expressed the hope that the foundation will not only provide immediate relief but also inspire others to contribute to the well-being of the less fortunate, adding that as she celebrates her birthday, the event will serve as a powerful reminder of the positive impact that kindness and generosity can have on communities in need.
She further called on the public to join in this heartwarming event, either by contributing or simply by spreading awareness about the cause, as it continues to promote hope and change across Ogun State, adding that the foundation “has continuously demonstrated a deep passion for community welfare, aims to touch the lives of these women by addressing some of their most pressing needs.”
