The Kaaro Oojiire Omo Oodua Foundation (KOOOF) has condemned in strong terms what it described as malicious defamation of the late Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, by Okikiola Badmus (a.k.a Portable) in a video that has gone viral.
Tribune Online learnt that in the video, Portable made statements considered malicious and defamatory against the estranged wife of the late Alaafin, Queen Dammy, whom he called his girlfriend, and which were extended to Oba Adeyemi.
Portable also mentioned his sponsorship of the education of Queen Dammy’s child sired by the late Alaafin.
The KOOF Chairman, Asiwaju Olú Mayungbe, in a released statement, said that “Portable’s claims in the video are not only frivolous, egregious and preposterous, but also damaging to Yoruba anthropology and culture.”
The Foundation regarded his words in the video as profanities, adding: “His statements have brought disrespect to the highly revered late Yoruba Royal Father and his family.”
In its demand, the Foundation asked for “an unreserved apology to the Yoruba people, monarchs, Alaafin’s chiefs, the Oyomesis, and family members on all social media platforms and newspapers.”
The Foundation also demanded the withdrawal of the defamatory video from all of Portable’s social networks.
Saying that Portable’s video has the potential to cause unrest in Nigeria, particularly in the South West, the Foundation warned Portable that failure to comply with these demands will lead to asking the Yoruba to totally boycott his plays and shows, both at home and in the diaspora.
“We urge the Nigerian authorities to take necessary action against Portable for his malicious and defamatory statements.
“The Kaaro Oojiire Omo Oodua Foundation will continue to promote and protect Yoruba culture, tradition and heritage,” Asiwaju Mayungbe said in the statement.
