A Non-Governmental Organization, FlexiSAF Foundation, has advocated for every child rights to education in Nigeria at the end of its concluded annual walk and maiden global initiative edition.
This, it said, is in furtherance of its vision and mandate to advocate for and provide access to quality and inclusive education for indigent children.
A statement by the Foundation’s Communications Lead, Amina Abbas, explained that this year’s walk advocated for every child’s right to education and highlighted the alarming number of out-of-school children in Nigeria of about 20 million, which is the highest in the world.
This year’s theme, “Every Step Counts: Securing the Future Amidst Economic Challenges,” emphasized the urgent need to support children’s education during a period of significant economic hurdles.
From December 2–16, 2024, individuals and organizations across the globe united for the cause by walking in their local communities, sharing their experiences on social media, and inspiring others to join in this vital effort.
The walk demonstrated the power of collective action, with thousands of participants raising awareness about the millions of children in Nigeria who are denied access to quality education.
Across Nigeria, participation was remarkable. Participants walked in groups and individually in their communities In Abuja, Kano and Gombe. In Kano, the Walk for Education was championed by the Kano Advocates Initiative, drawing hundreds of participants, including school children.
The group was also privileged to engage with the Emir of Kano, HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, who commended their efforts and offered his full support.
In Gombe State, youth groups, alongside organizations such as the Speak to Success Initiative,Access Initiative, and Eli Initiative, united for the common cause of advocating for inclusive, qualitative, and affordable education for all.
The Ag. Executive Director of FlexiSAF Foundation, Zainab Salihijo, remarked: “Nigeria faces an urgent education crisis, with nearly 20 million children out of school—the highest globally.”
The Walk for Education aims to raise awareness and urge the government and stakeholders to prioritize education, as many of Nigeria’s challenges stem from a lack of basic education.
Participation in the event was free, but many stepped forward with generous donations to support the Foundation’s mission of making education accessible to all.
Funds raised during Walk for Education 4.0 will go directly toward sending out-of-school children back to school, providing them with the resources, infrastructure, and opportunities they need to succeed and reach their potential.
FlexiSAF Foundation expressed its gratitude to all participants, donors, and partner organizations for their unwavering support.
Through a strong collective effort, this year’s walk not only raised significant awareness but
also underscored the importance of global collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s education crisis.
As part of its commitment to transparency, the Foundation will soon share the impact report detailing funds raised and their utilization. This ensures every donor and participant see the direct results of their contributions.
