Five safety tips for 2024 solar eclipse

Reports indicate that a total solar eclipse will occur today, April 8, and will be visible over Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

This phenomenon happens when the moon passes between Earth and the sun, completely blocking the sun’s face.

While those in the path of totality will experience a total solar eclipse, those outside will see a partial one. During a total solar eclipse, the sky will darken, and there are different phases to observe.

Here are five safety tips to keep in mind when viewing the eclipse:

1. Wear eclipse glasses.

2. Avoid looking directly at the sun.

3. Use binoculars or telescopes with solar filters.

4. Don’t use regular sunglasses.

5. Be aware of your surroundings.
