Federal Government has reiterated its resolve to prioritize social protection across the country, with the training of over 54 Government functionaries drawn from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Speaking at the 3-day training on social protection’ organized by the Child Development Grant Programme and Save the Children International, in Lagos, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq underscored the importance of capacity building in order to effectively manage, propagate and implement the mandate of the Ministry and various government policies.
The Minister who was represented by her Special Assistant (Administration), Mr Kingsley Ngene, explained that the objective was to improve knowledge and provide a deeper understanding of issues regarding social protection to support the strategic position of the Ministry in coordinating social protection programme implementation in Nigeria.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Bashir Alkali, explained that the Ministry “initiated the process of keying the staff into the Federal Government programme of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within the next decade.”
He, therefore, urged participants to make use of the knowledge and ideas gained in the training to support the Federal Government achieve its objectives.
In his remarks, the National Programme Manager of Child Development Grant Programme, Mr Ajumobi Kayode, said the aim of the programme was to strengthen capacity of social protection implementers, to design and implement appropriate social protection programmes for poor and vulnerable Nigerians.
