THE Federal Government has been tasked to subsidise medical care for elderly citizens, due to the high cost of treatment for geriatric diseases.
National President of Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), Tolu Taiwo said this at the opening of an alternative therapy centre called NUGA Best Therapy Centre in Ibadan, last week.
Taiwo said, “Health is important. We can’t joke with it. Government needs to invest more in our health care in Nigeria to stop people from going abroad to receive medical treatment. For older people, government needs to subsidise the cost of treatment for them. That’s the way forward.”
She also made a case for alternative therapy as an effective method of treatment that is practised globally but with lesser costs.
At the event, Chief Bose Osunmakinwa, CEO of NUGA Best Therapy Centre, Ibadan, speaking from her personal experience, noted that although she had her doubts initially, she has discovered that alternative therapy is just as effective even as it is a cheaper form of treatment for ailments especially among the elderly.
According to her, “After having excruciating pains to the point that I could not walk, I tried this therapy and over time I recovered fully.
