Archbishop of Ibadan Province and Bishop of the Diocese of Ibadan North, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend ’Segun Okubadejo, has called on the Federal Government to ensure fairness to all ethnic groups in the country.
He stated this in his charge delivered at the second session of the seventh synod of the Diocese of Ibadan North, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Yemetu, Ibadan, which had as its theme: We Are More Than Conquerors.
He said: “The Nigeria State has now become a theatre of bloodbath. It has become a country that eats up her people. Boko Haram insurgency has been on for almost ten years, and killer herdsmen have joined to worsen the situation. The excesses of the terrorist groups have resulted in the loss of lives of innocent people across the country.

“If the government is truly incapacitated, help can be sought from countries with the capacity to deal with the situation on hand. In the meanwhile, the military should be told in clear terms by the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to always apply the rules of engagement in their operations and to endeavour to clamp down n all criminally-organisations.”
He called on the Federal Government to “ensure fairness to different ethnic groups across the country in the distribution of public offices, because this is one of the many reasons for tension and agitations in the country.”
He noted the need for the Federal Government to take a holistic approach to improving the living conditions of the people, just as he called for a “more effective approach to ensure prompt payment of pensioners, before they all wither and die.”
He commended the Oyo State government for its efforts, which he said was evident of the good governance of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, and urged him not to relent in his efforts to make Oyo State a safe haven for citizens.
