A Daura Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna on Thursday sentenced a 28- year-old farmer, Obadiah Tanko, to 24-hours community service for stealing a phone.
The Magistrate, Naheed Ibrahim, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
“Based on the facts of this case before this court, the confirmed report and your plea of leniency, I hereby sentence you to 24-hours community service,” Ibrahim said.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Baba had told the court that one Naomi Ezekiel of Danhono, Yakowa Road in Kaduna reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station in Kaduna on July 8.
According to Baba, on July 7, the convict went into the complainant’s house and stole her Techno phone which she kept on her window.

He said that while in the process of stealing the phone, the convict was caught by the complainant’s neighbour and was arrested.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened Sections 271 of the Penal Code Laws of Kaduna State, 2017.
Tanko had pleaded guilty to the charge and asked for leniency, claiming that he committed the offence because he needed money.
