The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ekiti state has appointed, renowned journalist, Gani Salau as its new Public Relations Officer (PRO) ahead of the June 18 governorship election in the state.
It will be recalled that a former governor, Chief Segun Oni had joined the SDP to contest as the party’s governorship candidate for the poll.
The state chairman of the party, Dr Dele Ekunola in a statement on Friday said the decision to appoint a new PRO was in a tandem with the commitment of the party to approach June 18 in a bid to win for its candidate.
Ekunola noted that the appointment which take effect from February 18 was approved during the extraordinary meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) in line with the constitution of the party.
The statement read, “In line with the operation and constitution of our party, the SWC today in our extraordinary meeting unanimously agreed to present Gani Salau as the new Public Relation Officer of the party with effect from today, 18th February 2022.
“This is done in furtherance to the task ahead of us for a more optimum and effective operation to further reposition the party as we prepare for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti State and the subsequent elections.
“Gani Salau graduated at the University of Jos in 2001 from the department of political science. He was appointed as the secretary of Irepodun Ifelodun Local Council from 2007 to 2008. He holds a postgraduate diploma from the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja in 2016.
“He was a senior reporter and later Editor of Fountain News breaker between 2018 to 2021. He was also the Chairman of the Fountain News breaker chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State.
“On till his new assignment, the astute Journalist was the Ekiti State correspondent of Tabloid net newspaper from 2021 till date.”
