The United Progressive Party (UPP) felicitates with Moslems across the country on the occasion of this year’s Eid el-Kabir celebrations.
The Party also urged Moslems to use the occasion to pray for the nation and rededicate their lives in the service of Allah and humanity.
According to a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary of the Party Chief Ogbuehi Dike, “Eid-el-Kabir symbolizes self-sacrifice, humility, love, peace and unity which Moslems, indeed, all Nigerians should imbibe and demonstrate in our collective efforts in building a strong, virile, progressive and decent democratic nation”.
UPP however urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a level playing field for all the political parties contesting the Anambra State Governorship Election slated for 18th November, 2017.
“The Commission should also transmit election results electronically from the polling centres to the INEC central database as it promised to do. The need to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and acceptable gubernatorial poll cannot be over-emphasized.
“In view of this, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should be involved in monitoring elections in the country to checkmate the unpatriotic activities of moneybags and godfathers who openly use their ill-gotten wealth to buy votes at polling booths. The arrest and prosecution of these unscrupulous elements will go a long way in sanitizing the nation’s electoral process.
“UPP urges the Anambra State electorate to vote wisely and protect their vote in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll. Osita Chidoke is the best candidate for the 18th November 2017 Governorship Election. A vote for UPP is a vote for progressive governance and dividends of democracy to the longsuffering people of Anambra State,” the statement added.
