OPERATIVES of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan zonal office, on Wednesday, stormed a Lagos hotel, suspected to be a hideout for internet fraudsters, and arrested a suspected ‘Yahoo’ kingpin, Rasaq Balogun, and 25 others.
The anti-graft agency had recently arrested ‘police spies’ during a raid on their Abeokuta base, which necessitated the need to go after Balogun, suspected to be an internet fraudster.
The agency said information at its disposal had it that Balogun “harbours an army of young men recruited to carry out financial frauds through the use of the internet.”

Some of the suspects were reported to have been arrested at Balogun’s Beckley Estate residence and at Modzak Hotel in Abule-Egba, Lagos State.
EFCC said some young men were caught harboured in the hotel with no specific mission, which gave credence to the suspicion.
The suspects are all under interrogation at the commission’s Ibadan zonal office.
Items recovered from Balogun include three vehicles, laptops, mobile phones and documents suspected to contain fraudulent data.
Those indicted, according to EFCC, will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
