Edo State Government in partnership with BEDC is set to meter about five hundred thousand houses in the state, beginning from next week with a bid to eliminate the problem of estimated billing in the state.
This was disclosed by the Hon Commissioner for mining, Energy, Oil and Gas, Hon Enaholo Ojiefo shortly after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in his office on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the event, the commissioner said that the project will cover the three senatorial districts and every houses is expected to be installed with the Government subsidized meter starting from August 13th, 2024
According to Ojiefo, the state Government desirous to eliminate the problem of estimated billing decided to embark on the projects while disclosing that the meters are covered by insurance policy and subscribers are expected to get their meter from the very day they make payment and within ten days.
Speaking further, the Commissioner said that subscribers are expected to log into the payment portal beginning from August 14th.
The management of BEDC was represented at the ceremony by the Chairman of Board of Directors, pastor Kings Akuma and the managing director/ CEO of the electricity body Mr Deolu Ijose and the launch is billed to take place next week.
