The Ebonyi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced its preparedness to participate in next year’s general elections, following the declaration of interest by aspirants for the positions of governor, Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly.
The State Chairman of the party, Dr Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, disclosed this to journalists after a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held at the party secretariat along the old Enugu-Abakaliki Road. She said that ADC, like every other political party in Nigeria, will feature on the ballot.
According to her, the meeting became necessary as part of ongoing preparations for the 2027 general elections, assuring that the party will field candidates across board, especially in Ebonyi State.
“Today, we had a State Working Committee meeting. The LGA chairmen, ward chairmen and aspirants were all present. You can see the crowd; it is massive,” she said.
Explaining the purpose of the meeting, she added: “The meeting was to brief members on the state of the party. We deemed it necessary to convene this meeting because the African Democratic Congress is a political party, not a support group. We are not pseudo to any political party. We are a political party that will be on the ballot, and we will field candidates across board, especially in Ebonyi State.”
She further stated that the party would present candidates for the State Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship positions, reiterating that “we are ready, and the aspirants are ready to contest elections on the platform of the party.”
Adibe-Nwafor also revealed that the SWC considered a Federal High Court judgement which nullified the party’s earlier congresses, noting that fresh congresses would be conducted across all states, including Ebonyi.

“The SWC also reviewed the Federal High Court judgement delivered on April 29. All the congresses conducted earlier were quashed. State chairmen have been mandated to organise fresh congresses. We have complied and are obeying the court order.
“The national leadership has been notified and is fully aware of the judgement. We will re-conduct the congresses in line with the court’s directive. Other states will also conduct theirs, and Ebonyi will not be left out.
“It is necessary to conduct the congresses to ensure that our aspirants emerge through a legitimate process.
“Even the national convention was also nullified. The national leadership has fixed May 27 for a special convention, where Senator David Mark and other National Working Committee members will be re-elected and ratified. We are law-abiding citizens and will not go against court orders; we are following due process,” she said.
She also called on party members to unite ahead of the fresh congresses, stressing the need for harmony if the party is to succeed in the elections.
