Easter: Ooni urges Christians to pray, sacrifice for peace in Nigeria

AS Christians celebrate this year’s Easter, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) has urged Christians and Nigerians, in general, to pray for the nation and make sacrifice for peace and harmonious co-existence among various ethnic nationalities in the country.

In an Easter message signed by his director of media and public affairs, Comrade Moses Olafare, which was made available to Sunday Tribune in Osogbo, on Saturday, the monarch admonished “Christians to always see themselves as their brothers’ keepers and ensure a harmonious relationship with members of other religious groups.

Oba Ogunwusi maintained that “for the country to enjoy the conducive atmosphere that will catalyze socio-economic development”, peace and tranquillity were germane, adding that “Jesus Christ being celebrated today made a huge sacrifice by choosing to die for the deliverance of mankind.”

The message reads, “as prophet of God, Jesus lived an exemplary life of Godliness, characterised by discipline, simplicity, forgiveness, generosity, magnanimity and kindness, which must be emulated.

“As Christians, you must be ready to make sacrifices. That is why the followers of Jesus Christ, especially in Nigeria must take the season of this year’s celebrations as a new dawn of healthy relationship with other religions, with a view to ensuring peace and growth in the country.”
