The Misereor Dialogue and Partnership Service (DPS Nigeria) in Abuja officially launched Volume 11 of the Reader entitled “Improving Human Rights Promotion in Nigeria” at the Grand Pela Hotel and Suites in Abuja.
This initiative aims to stimulate dialogue on human rights violations in Nigeria.
The book “Improving Human Rights Promotion in Nigeria, Volume 2” is a practical guide highlighting connections between human rights, conflict resolutions and decongestion of correctional facilities in Nigeria.
In addition, the book will serve as a practical guide for persons and groups engaged in human rights activism in Nigeria.
It highlights the connections between human rights, conflict resolution, and decongestion of custodial and correctional facilities in Nigeria.
The Society notes that Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria are crucial in advocating human rights and promoting social justice.
Nigeria faces numerous challenges, including issues related to freedom of expression, press freedom and gender inequality, to name a few.
Civil society Organisations have been at the forefront of addressing these issues and advocating positive change.
This publication, Improving Human Rights Promotion in Nigeria, Volume 2, is a practical guide for persons and groups engaged in human rights activism in Nigeria.
It highlights the connections between human rights, conflict resolution, and decongestion of custodial and correctional facilities in Nigeria.
The publication makes meaningful contributions to promoting, defending, and protecting human rights, particularly among the people at the grassroots who often encounter human rights violations.
While Volume 1 was published in 2021 and gives detailed explanations of the relevant laws and conventions related to human rights, the volume offers a new perspective by providing further clarifications on the significance of evidence-based human rights advocacy. This is why the book strongly emphasises activities such as monitoring, reporting, research and documentation.
These two publications affirm the determined engagement of Misereor and her partner organisations to help promote the eradication of the cancer of human rights violations in Nigeria. The readers examine initiatives related to the promotion of human rights in Nigeria, with a keen focus on assessing the strategies employed in light of the evolving situation in the country.
The publication revisits the core principles that should guide a fair and equitable society, while also highlighting the essential requirements for attaining, improving and maintaining peace and development in the nation.
As Rev. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina has written in the foreword: ” Let this book be a source of inspiration and a catalyst for action. Let it serve as a reminder that the struggle for human rights is not the domain of a select few, but the responsibility of us all. In the spirit of unity and purpose, let us work together to advance the cause of human rights in Nigeria, and by doing so, create a ripple effect that resonates far beyond its borders. “
