The Delta State Police Command has made significant strides in its fight against crime, arresting suspected kidnappers and gunmen in separate operations across the state.
Acting on intelligence, officers from the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, raided a hideout on 2 February 2025 in Evwokenren Layout, off Ughelli Road, Agbarho.
The operation targeted the fleeing leader of a notorious kidnapping gang, identified as Emeka (surname unknown).
During the raid, police recovered a fabricated semi-automatic Beretta pistol with four rounds of live ammunition, four locally-made cut-to-size guns, 13 rounds of live cartridges, and a pair of military uniforms hidden in a black polythene bag.
The suspect is in custody, while a manhunt for other gang members continues.
In a separate operation on 19 February 2025, officers of Safer 025 Highway Patrol arrested three suspects during a stop-and-search operation along the Benin-Agbor expressway.
The suspects, identified as Buhari Bala (28), Habibu Sale (25), Abdulwahab Musa (20), and Taisu Bala (20), were found in possession of three locally-made long guns and charms.
They claimed to be hunters travelling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Igbogri Community near Benin for a hunting expedition. Investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, on 17 January 2025, acting on a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division, CSP Pius Eredei, led officers to the residence of one Eriga Enyuche (40).
A search of his one-room apartment led to the discovery of a G-3 rifle and a pump-action gun hidden in the ceiling.
According to SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reaffirmed his commitment to tackling crime.
“Under my watch, Delta State will remain hostile to criminals. We will not relent in ensuring the safety of residents,” he stated.
He urged the public to provide timely and credible information to the police by reporting at the nearest station or calling the command’s control room numbers.
