This is just as the command has commenced ‘Operation Free Flow Traffic’ at the Asaba end of the Onitsha Niger Bridge.
The command made these known in a release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka.
The operation, it was stated, was to ease the movements of travelers through Asaba to the South-East, South-South and South-West for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Zanna Ibrahim, on behalf of the Delta State Committee on Traffic Management, flagged off the ‘Operation Free Flow of Traffic’ at the Asaba end of the Niger bridge, on Tuesday.
On the indiscriminate use of fireworks, the command insisted that the ban on the use of fireworks was still in force and that the Command would enforce all the extant laws prohibiting the use of fireworks such as knock outs, among others.
The CP, while noting that the ban was necessary to safe-guard public safety and avoid distractions to security operatives, especially during the yuletide season, enjoined members of the public not to run foul of the law as anyone caught would be dealt with.
The statement also assured Deltans of their safety at all times and called on them to keep supporting the police and other security agencies in their efforts at providing a peaceful and secure environment.
