The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ethiope Federal Constituency of Delta State has sent a strong message to the main opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring it as inconsequential ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, who was the special guest of honour at the official inauguration of the Executive Members of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum on Friday, fired the first salvo, stating that the recent defection of the constituency’s House of Representatives member, Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, would have no adverse effect on the PDP’s dominance.
He assured that the vacant seat would be reclaimed sooner rather than later.
He emphasised that the presence of key political figures from Ethiope East and West Local Government Areas at the inauguration was a clear indication that the APC would be relegated to political irrelevance in Ethiope Federal Constituency come 2027.
Rt Hon Guwor stressed the need for all Deltans to support the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, highlighting his remarkable achievements in infrastructure and socio-economic development across the state.
He assured the gathering that Governor Oborevwori had not borrowed from any financial institution and would not do so to fund projects in 2025, describing him as a seasoned technocrat and a prudent manager of state resources.
The Speaker congratulated the Chairman of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum and Chief Adviser to the Governor, Dr Ighoyota Amori, and his team.
He urged them to strategise effectively to erase the APC from the political landscape of Ethiope Federal Constituency and Delta State.
Similarly, the State Party Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, assured the massive crowd that those who recently defected from the PDP in the constituency would come crawling back for membership after the 2027 elections.
He dismissed their defection as inconsequential, stating that they lacked the political structures to challenge the PDP in a free and fair election.
Chief Arenyeka commended Governor Oborevwori for his visionary leadership, hard work, patriotism, political maturity, and prudent management of resources. He urged Deltans to continue supporting their “Street Credibility Governor” until May 29, 2031.
The PDP State Chairman expressed confidence in the leadership abilities of Dr Amori. He stated that with Amori as Chairman of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, the party would maintain its dominance in the constituency and beyond.
He encouraged the newly inaugurated executive members to get to work immediately, leaving no stone unturned as the party entered another electioneering phase, reaffirming that “PDP is Delta, and Delta is PDP.”
Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo, asserted that Ethiope Federal Constituency remained a stronghold of the PDP. He cited the calibre of political leaders at the inauguration as proof, adding that those who defected to the opposition had unknowingly sabotaged their political careers.
He assured that Governor Oborevwori would secure a landslide victory in the 2027 elections due to his outstanding performance across all sectors. He urged the people of Ethiope Federal Constituency to prepare to reclaim the PDP’s House of Representatives seat.
DS Akpowowo maintained that the PDP seat was vacated dishonourably by Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu due to her unlawful defection, as outlined in Section 68 (1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended. He insisted that her reasons for defecting were unfounded, unacceptable, and baseless.
Leader of the PDP in Ughelli South and construction magnate, Chief John Oguma, dismissed the APC as a party that existed only on social media in Ethiope Federal Constituency and Delta State. He stated that those who defected lacked the electoral strength to challenge the PDP in 2027.
Chief Oguma further assured that the three senatorial seats lost to the opposition through dubious means would be reclaimed in 2027. He noted that Governor Oborevwori’s achievements would secure a decisive victory for the PDP at the polls.
In his post-inauguration speech, the Chairman of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum, Dr Amori, declared that the federal constituency was poised to crush APC Delta in the upcoming elections. He asserted that the defected former representative, Hon Ibori-Suenu, would not return in 2027 under any political party.
Chief Amori urged party leaders to continue positioning the PDP for electoral success, stating that Governor Oborevwori’s performance would resonate with voters in 2027.
He added that the forum carried significant responsibilities and that the executive committee would commence work immediately. He announced plans for a mega rally at Oghara Township Stadium in Ethiope West LGA to showcase the PDP’s dominance in the constituency.
State Director of Protocol, Chief Sunday Onoriode, provided a brief history of how Chief Amori conceived the idea of the Ethiope Federal Constituency PDP Forum in January. He asserted that, come 2027, Deltans would overwhelmingly vote for the infrastructural advancements under Governor Oborevwori, including flyover bridges and durable roads.
He noted that the opposition in Delta State would continue to seek undeserved relevance on social media without any grassroots support to rival the PDP’s political prowess and undisputed supremacy across all three senatorial districts.
Leader of the PDP in Ethiope East LGA, Chief Bernard Edewor, urged party members to remain united, stating that those who defected to the opposition had politically derailed. He assured that the PDP would reclaim all vacant National Assembly seats while praising Governor Oborevwori for his governance and ability to build meaningful political alliances.
Chief Edewor congratulated the newly inaugurated executive committee of the Ethiope Federal Constituency Forum under the leadership of Amori. He urged them to ensure the PDP’s continued dominance and to work towards eliminating opposition parties in the forthcoming elections.
The Ethiope Federal Constituency Forum executive committee was inaugurated by the PDP State Chairman, Chief Arenyeka, through the Delta Central PDP Chairman, Chief Anthony Akpomiemie, Esq.
The ceremony was well attended by prominent politicians and party faithful from all 22 wards. It was evident that the PDP remained firmly in control of the Ethiope Federal Constituency.
A key highlight of the event was a vote of confidence in Governor Oborevwori, proposed by former House of Representatives member Rt Hon Ben Igbakpa and seconded by Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo. The motion was formally adopted as the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, struck the gavel to legitimise the decision.
