The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has lamented the painful passing of one of its finest members and ace broadcasters with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Asaba, Mrs. Ifeoma Okafor.
Mrs. Okafor passed away on the morning of Thursday, May 9, after a brief illness in Asaba.
The Chairman and Secretary of NUJ Delta Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe and Comrade Victor Sorokwu, expressed grief at the demise of two significant female members within the space of six weeks in a statement on Friday.
The statement reads in part:
“It is indeed with heavy hearts laden with seething grief that we mourn the passing of our cherished comrade leader, Ifeoma Okafor.
“Until her death, Comrade Ifeoma Okafor was an ace broadcaster and the Secretary of the NUJ NTA Asaba Chapel.
“The leadership of the NUJ Delta Council is particularly numbed by the successive loss of two distinguished female unionists within the space of 45 days.

“Ifeoma was a very fertile mind, a rare breed of journalist, a versatile communicator, a vademecum of diverse fields of knowledge.
“A media library of historic events and a repository of contemporary news and current affairs; ranging from politics to sports, foreign affairs and diplomacy, economy, governance, science, and even tradition and humanities.
“She was, unarguably, one of the most visible contributors to topical issues on the official NUJ Delta WhatsApp Handle.
“Engage Ifeoma on any topic and be sure you would pick up something new and fresh at the end of the discourse.
“Ifeoma, the leadership of NUJ Delta Council, and indeed all of our members and colleagues would miss you sorely.
“We, however, resort to your Maker, who has permitted Death to close this interesting Book of your very exciting life and times as a quintessential broadcaster and communicator, media professional, resilient unionist, and media activist.
“We pray the Good Lord to grant your gentle soul a restful repose in His Bosom, awaiting the Resurrection Morning, and your husband, family, and loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
“We also pray the Merciful Lord to wade off death and sorrow from the NUJ Delta Council and may the news of death be far from us! Amen!!
