The decision to cancel the tour, R learnt, was hinged on the singer’s resolve to participate at the compulsory one-year scheme, even as he knew it would affect other engagements that could swell his pocket while it lasted.
Davido had reportedly informed those close to him that he wanted to participate at the scheme even it meant that he would lose some millions of dollars as it was learnt that he may be eyeing a political ambition in the future.
Information pieced together by R revealed that the Nwa Baby crooner, who had left the NYSC camp at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State, after causing a stir with his appearance at the ground some weeks back to continue his US tour, had been forced to discontinue other performances due to his commitment to the scheme.
A close source in the camp of the singer told R that Davido is passionate about his education hence his decision to have completed his first degree in the first place. The source hinted further that he might be losing some cool millions but he would not feel anything because “he’s loaded already.”
Davido, on Thursday night, confirmed that he would not continue the US tour and apologised to his fans in the US. He also promised to make refunds to those who had bought tickets to watch him perform.
His fans in the US were said to have received the news of the cancellation with mixed feelings as some of them reportedly insisted the singer should return to the US.
The cities where Davido would have visited included Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
In a statement released on his Instagram page, Davido wrote : “I apologise to all my fans but duty calls. I promise new dates would be announced for Houston Dallas LA and San Francisco We will reschedule and add more dates. Shout out to all the fans who sold out each city so far.”
