CSOs defend PenCom DG nominee, Omolola Oloworaran, against sponsored attacks

A civil society organisation, Pension Transparency and Accountability Initiative (PTAI) has expressed shock over the recent media attacks on Omolola Oloworaran, the presidential nominee for the position of Director General of Pension Commission (PenCom).

The organisation has come out in support of Oloworaran, stating that she possesses the necessary requirements, including a strong career path in finance, to lead the Pension Commission.

PTAI’s national coordinator, Alhaji Bello Usman Bello, described the attacks as “malicious” and “laughable,” lacking in depth, truth, and fact.

He emphasised that Oloworaran’s experience in the financial sector, including banking, investment management, consultancy, and pension administration, makes her a perfect fit for the role.

The organisation argued that the critics’ argument about Oloworaran’s qualification is baseless, as the Pension Reformed Act of 2014 does not exclude individuals with a financial sector background from being appointed as PenCom DG. In fact, such experience is considered an added advantage.

PTAI urged those criticising Oloworaran to focus on more substantive issues, stating that her expertise is needed to consolidate the achievements of her predecessors.

The organisation expressed confidence in Oloworaran’s ability to lead the Pension Commission and called on the Senate to confirm her appointment without delay.
