The Cross River State government has launched the 2024 Trade Fair, aiming to enhance international connectivity for economic growth and improved living conditions.
During the opening ceremony at the U. J. Esuene Stadium’s Training Pitch in Calabar, the Commissioner for Commerce, Abigail Duke Orok, emphasised that the Cross River Trade Fair presents a renewed opportunity to build partnerships, spotlight local businesses and promote sustainable economic development within the state.
She highlighted that the theme of the Trade Fair, ‘In support of our shared prosperity’, aligns with the state government’s goals for economic advancement, growth of local industries and support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), thereby positioning the state as an attractive place for investment.
The commissioner assured business leaders of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance the ease of doing business by not just supporting innovations and implementing protective policies but also fostering investment growth.
She added that a thriving economy relies on collaboration and effective partnerships, reiterating that the administration led by Governor Otu remains committed to creating a conducive environment for business owners, emphasising that Cross River State is well-suited for trade due to its extensive arable land for agriculture and infrastructural support for tourism, manufacturing, and digital innovation.
She noted that the event is crucial for the state’s economy, as it signifies the revival of a long-standing tradition that had been inactive for over a decade.
The commissioner encouraged exhibitors, partners and investors to seize the opportunity to forge new connections, share ideas and invest in Cross River for a brighter future.
The event concluded with a tour of various exhibitions and investor booths led by the deputy governor, Peter Odey and display from vendors.
