Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, Olugbenga Adepoju, has vowed to fish out suspected kidnappers who ambushed an expatriate on the Aleto bridge in Rivers forcing him to drown in an attempt to evade them.
The CP made the vow Tuesday when he visited the scene of the gruesome incident where the vehicle conveyed the victim, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rivers State Cassava Project Limited, plunged into the river.
According to the police report, Mr. Gibson Reuben, an expatriate from the Netherlands, lost his life in the incident, which occurred on Monday, the 13th. January 2025, at about 8:30pm at Aleto Eleme Bridge.
A statement signed by the PRO of the Rivers State Police command SP. Grace Iringe-Koko has it that the Mr. Mobile Police personnel accompanying Reuben managed to escape while he and the Hilux Van were still submerged in the water.
She said; “a search party led by the Command’s Marine Unit has since been constituted to rescue the expatriate who is also the driver in charge of the Hilux van. The search party’s efforts resulted in the recovery of the lifeless body of the expatriate Mr. Gibson Reuben and the White color Toyota Hilux Van.
“The recovery of the body and vehicle brings to somber end to the rescue efforts”, the statement added.
CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju was accompanied by the Area Commander Eleme, DPOs within the Eleme Area Command, and tactical teams of the command already at the scenes.
Speaking to journalists at the Aleto Bridge, CP Olugbenga strongly condemned the attack as “very barbaric,” stating that he had ordered a full-scale investigation with immediate arrest of the perpetrators of this reprehensible act, vowing to bring them to justice.
He called on the good people of Rivers State to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing perpetrators of the criminal act.
