Court sentences man to 18 months in prison for unlawful possession of firearms

ONE Richard John Abdullaahi has been sentenced to 18 months in prison with hard labour for unlawful possession of firearms by Justice D.U. Okorowo of the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja. Kogi State.

The Kogi State Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Alex Agiri, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday when the command secured the court judgment.

Agiri said the command arrested the convict when its operatives were on routine patrol around Mountain of Fire Church, Phase II in Lokoja.

The corps spokesperson said that the convict, during cross-examination by its counsel, E.S Onu, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The judgment, according to the statement, was delivered on October 24.

Agiri added that the NSCDC in the state remained committed to protecting critical infrastructure, stressing that it would continue to collaborate with other security agencies towards protecting lives and
