A Sokoto Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 21-year-old iron bender, Nura Faruku, in prison over an alleged rape of a minor.
The accused, who resides at Mana area of Sokoto, is facing a count charge of rape to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison saying the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.
Adamu adjourned the case until May 26 for the mention and transfer to a court of competent jurisdiction.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Tambuwal Abubakar, had told the court that the offence was committed on April 21 at the accused residence.
According to the prosecutor, the accused lured the five-year-old girl to an uncompleted building and had sexual intercourse with her against her will.
Abubakar said that the offence contravened Sections 284 of the Penal Code.
