… nullifies Turaki-led leadership

The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has invalidated the elective convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan.

The Convention, which saw the emergence of Saminu Turaki SAN, and others as the leadership of the party, has been declared null and void by Justice Agomoh in her ruling on Friday.

The Turaki-led executive council had filed suit no FHC/IB/CS/121/2025, which approached the Court to validate the outcome of the Congress as well as give it legal credence.

The suit is filed by the PDP against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and six others as defendants.

But Justice Uche Agomoh in her ruling dismissed the application filed by the Claimants.

She ruled that the application lacked merit as it could not be substantiated with the necessary provision of laws

The suit, as stated in her ruling os a brazen attempt by the Applicants to legitimise their illegalities done in violation of subsiding court orders

‘I cannot allow that or sit on appeal over those judgements.

‘The Application fails and is hereby dismissed.

Reacting to the ruling, the lead counsel to the PDP Caretaker committee, Chief Ferdinand Oshioke Orbih, SAN, described the ruling as a welcome development and boost for democracy.

He said, “The C l aimants had sought judicial endorsement of an illegally conducted elective convention, which the court has denied.

“The judgment has affirmed that the rule of law must prevail over political expediency.

“All actions and structures arising from the Convention had been completely nullified.

“The Court decision underscores the inevitability of the caretaker committee taking charge of the party’s affairs until a valid convention is conducted in line with the law

“The ruling sends a strong message to political actors on the importance of obeying the court judgments, warnings that disregard for the rule of law can lead to chaos.”
