Contract breach: Davido, Pinnick settle for out of court settlement

An out-of-court settlement between Brownhill Investment Company, controlled by Amaju Pinnick, and Mr. David Adeleke, also known as Davido, was approved by an Effurun-based Delta High Court.

On Thursday, Effurun’s High Court Judge Michael Obi thanked all parties for their cooperative decision to resolve out-of-court.

The business had filed a lawsuit with the court in October 2023 under the case number EHC/183/2023. Davido, the afrobeat musician, and Davido Music Worldwide Limited, his record company, are named as joint defendants.

Due to a contract violation, the firm had sued the defendants in order to play at the 19th “Warri Again Concert.”
The appellant requested in the lawsuit that the defendants pay the defendants N2 billion in general damages for breaching the terms of the concert contract.

Additionally, Pinnick’s firm requested N150 million in legal and professional expenses from the court, along with an extra N30 million for closing costs.

Responding to the court verdict, counsel to the defendants, Mr Oladayo Ogungbe, said after the court’s proceedings that both parties had been able to explore the out-of-court settlement.

“Davido is coming again to Warri on October 4 to perform – that forms part of the settlement.
“It’s fine. It is better than going through the rigours of litigations.

“Both parties consider the option of having the matter settled out of court, which in my opinion as a lawyer, is the best approach to any litigation.

“It is a win-win situation to both parties,” Ogungbe said.
The ‘Warri Again” concert is an annual event organised by Pinnick to celebrate entertainers from the Niger Delta region.
