The chairman of Attanzil Islamic foundation and chief imam of Allahu Waheed central mosque, Lotogbe, Ondo, Alhaji Abdrafiu Ajiboye Lagbaaji has urged political parties and their candidates to refrain from action that may incite violence among their followers.
Lagbaaji in a company of the Secretary of the foundation, Alhaji Kamaldeen Katayeyanjue bn Sambo and twelve other imams in a separate peace meeting with some leading candidates of Member of House Representative Ondo west/Ondo east federal constituency said peace is the basis for development, adding that Nigerians must love one another.
According to him, “These meetings were important as religious leaders have vital roles to play in ensuring the success of the forthcoming polls”. He stressed.
Sambo further admonished the candidates to accept the outcome of the election in good faith in other to prevent post-election violence, saying God put whomever he wishes in position.
The imam also appeals to the politicians to restrain their supporters from provocative cult killing in the kingdom.
In his reaction, the candidate of APC for Ondo west/Ondo east federal constituency in the election, Hon Jibayo Adeyeye, express his gratitude for the peace meeting and promise to abide by the rules guiding the exercise. He assured the people of the kingdom of his good representation.
On his part, the candidate of AAC, Otunba Ade Adeniyi also urged the politicians to accept whatever the results of the election in good faith. Other candidates that were visited include Hon. Joseph Akinlaja of Zenith labour party(ZLP), Hon Abiola Makinde of ADC and Otunba Ade Adeniyi of AAC.
