Christians have been admonished to imbibe the spirit of giving and assisting the under-privileged in the society.
Delivering his sermon during the official launch of Pentecost Charity Empowerment Foundation in Ilorin, Reverend OlukayodeOmolaja of the All Saints African Church, Ilorin described the act of giving as a gift from God, saying that one cannot give to the needy unless called by God.
The cleric, who quoted from Act of Apostle 2:1-6 in his sermon entitled Mandate of Pentecost, explained the significance of Pentecost, saying that mandate given to the organization is charity and gift of giving to the needy.
He charged Christians not to cater for their family only, saying that neighbours would be the ones to stand by them when their family members are not around.
Reverend Omolaja, who said that the founder of the foundation had chosen the right path to pursue in contributing her quota to human development in the church, society, state and Nigeria at large, adding that generous people will be blessed.
Also speaking, the president of the foundation, Lady Evangelist Maria Bukoye, said that the organisation, Pentecost Charity Empowerment Foundation, was started to render help to the needy and empower them.
“One of our vision and mission statements is to ensure that every person has the opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential which will in turn enable them to contribute positively to every good aspect of life.
“Another is to see a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection and development.
“We are driven to make life worth living for all and sundry through the contributing of our quota to the development of our nation in general and Kwara State in particular.
“Our charity organisation is determined to serve humanity by raising funds to execute projects and implement schemes and programmes that will change the living conditions of the people in the society for the better.
“It is good at this juncture to let you know that we have developed programmes and project plans, we intend to be executing one after the other, among which are: having a positive impact in the lives of the orphans (not just visiting them); getting closer to the under-privileged people by empowering them financially, materially and knowledge wise; visiting public schools to change their outlook for the better and to provide materials and facilities that will aid better education and providing health care for the underserved and less privileged,” she remarked.
