An outbreak of cholera has hit a small community in Kogi State killing four persons.
It was gathered that the outbreak happened in Daba, an agrarian community in Kupa South, under Lokoja Local Government of Kogi State.
It was further learnt that some persons in the community are currently suffering from the ailment.
According to an indigene of the community Abubakar Suleiman, he told Tribune Online on Thursday that the community which has about 200 population don’t have access to good portable water.
“As of Wednesday, four persons have been confirmed dead in my community due to Cholera outbreak. This happened because my community could not access good portable water. We are using this medium to call on the government to do something before more lives will be lost,” he added.
Suleiman averred that a similar outbreak had occurred in Tsanawa community about a month ago killing three people.
He, however, explained that the environmental health officer of Daba community, Mr Mohammed Bochi, has been informed of the recent outbreak in his community.
When contacted, the environment health officer of Daba community Mr Mohammed Bochi said he is not in a position to talk about the outbreak referring our correspondent to contact the management of Lokoja Local Government Area.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu, could not be reached at the time of filing this report as his phone line was not reachable.
