Central Bank of Nigeria
The Central bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Thursday, donated a Central Library, blocks of lecture rooms and administrative buildings to the Oyo State government for the establishment of the Technical University, Ibadan, the state capital.
The structures include Central e-Library space for 500 students with 10 offices, 12 toilet facilities, a block of 24 lecture rooms with 11 administrative offices.
Others are furniture, borehole, generating set, street lights, CCTV camera, air conditioners and additional toilet facilities.
The buildings were received on behalf of the state government by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Olalekan Alli, alongside the Pro-chancellor of the university, Professor Oladapo Afolabi; Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela; Commissioner for Finance, Mr Abimbola Adekanmbi; Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun and other government officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Alli assured that the state government will embark on other developmental projects towards the establishment of a world-class University.
Alli also reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensuring the take-off of the university in September.
Alli, who commended CBN for its intervention in the technical university, assured that the buildings donated would be put to effective use by the university’s management.
The CBN branch controller, Mr Omebere Iyari, on the occasion, commended the state government for the initiative of a state-owned technical university, adding that the unique institution will revolutionise technical skills development and education in the country.
He said that the intervention had shown that CBN is beyond monetary and fiscal policies, adding that the apex bank had a lot of intervention in education, agriculture and other sectors of the economy.
