The Ondo State government on Sunday said it has uncovered a plot by some elements in the state to launch a campaign of calumny against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his administration in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo, who said some politicians in the state and their paid agents have perfected plans to rubbish the efforts of Akeredolu in developing the state.
Ojogo said the alarm became necessary in view of the enormity of the planned negative campaign which has been uncovered by the state government.
The Commissioner disclosed that the main target of the evil plot is the governor as well as members of his immediate family.
Ojogo who described the plot as ignoble and inhuman, said the plan was orchestrated to blackmail the governor but said the governor will not be distracted by the antics of some political elements in the state.
The statement stated in part: “This orchestrated plot intends to malign, blackmail and discredit the Akeredolu-led administration is a calendarised plot with all the components of unimaginable lies and imaginary concoctions.
“For the records, the Akeredolu-led administration has strived and thrived on the enviable pedestal of transparency, accountability and fairness since inception.
“For observant people of the state, frivolous and needless confrontation with those perceived to harbour or bear divergent political opinions is one area the Akeredolu-led government has consciously and conscionably avoided.
“This is more so, that Governor Akeredolu believes in the principle of freedom of association just as he relishes constructive criticism. This strengthens, in no all measure, democratic governance.
“Nonetheless, the Ondo State government, with no intention to suppress different views about governance, finds this ignoble plot a despicable and divisive plot”
Ojogo said further that: “It smacks of desperation on the part of the orchestra directors and their performers. For the Akeredolu-led administration, the people, through good governance first, before any other venture.
“Despite this plot, the administration will not be distracted. Neither will such satanic machinations be allowed to have a dissuasive potency on the governor’s desire to bring all on board for a better Ondo State.”
The government’s statement came less than four days after an audio message went viral condemning the administration of Governor Akeredolu.
The statement also trailed a warning from the Ondo Youths Assembly to the governor not to appoint his younger brother as the next vice-chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.
