Leon Usigbe- Abuja
President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday met behind closed doors with some northern state governors including Kashim Shettima (Borno), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting came moments before he departed for the United States of America to participate in the 72nd meeting of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He is expected to be received at the JFK Airport, New York in the early hours of Monday, Nigerian time.
It was not immediately clear why the meeting was called but Shettima is the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum.
The meeting may not therefore be unconnected with the current security situation in the country.
Special Adviser for the president on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, confirmed Buhari’s departure for New York on Facebook account saying: “President Buhari departs Abuja to New York for 72nd Session of the United Nation General Assembly on Sept. 17, 2017.
