Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio representing Akwa Ibom North West District at the Nigerian Senate has formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio, who joined Nigeria’s main opposition party, Wednesday afternoon, August 8, was ushered into the APC by its national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in a rally organised by the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the party.
The Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan, after introducing his colleagues at the ceremony, described Akpabio’s defection as “one that is more than 14.”
In attendance at the ceremony welcoming Akpabio to the APC are Senators Abdullahi Yahaya, Abdullahi Gumel from Jigawa State, Muhammed Sani from Niger State, and Gbenga Ashafa from Lagos State.
Former Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Adamu, Senators Abubakar Kyari from Borno State, Babajide Omoworare from Osun State, Magnus Abe from Rivers, Mao Ohabunwa from Edo and Nelson Efiong from Akwa Ibom.
