Shortly after the deputy speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Okey Onyekanma, announced his resignation, the minority leader, Ekene Nnodimele, has also resigned.

Also, Nnodimele announced his defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) that gave him the winning ticket to the ruling All progressives Congress (APC).
The Speaker, Collins Chiji, read his letter of resignation and defection at the plenary on Tuesday.
