The management, Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, under the leadership of Professor Joshua Ogunwole, the vice-chancellor of the institution, has established a secondary school in Osogbo, the capital city of the state. It is expected that academic activities will take off on September 28, for the 2021/22 session at the permanent site of the college.
In a chat with Professor Babatunde Adebiyi Olunlade, the chairman Task Force committee set up by the university council to ensure the establishment of the proposed secondary school in Osogbo, Tribune Online learnt that the school would take a new dimension in the teaching and learning methods that would restore sanity and that would also guarantee standard for quality education assurance in the secondary school education system in the country.
According to him, the new secondary school is designed to restore the old glory of secondary school education in Nigeria with a special focus on digital technological robotic based education.
Professor Olunlade noted that the school would be a centre for character building with academic excellence and leadership acquisition. He added that the school will open to all and sundry within and outside the country.
He said the development would go a long way to raise godly young children of good character with academic excellence during their formative years before they would proceed to acquire tertiary education in different skills and professions in the university of their choice.
He also noted that the secondary education syllabus and curriculum in Nigeria called for urgent and immediate review and reform to rid the youngsters of the act of criminality while in secondary school, by injecting special education that will instil in them the fear of God and respect for humanity.
He said: “Bowen University wishes to participate fully in the secondary education development investment in the country by reason of the aforementioned increasing immoralities that now pervade the secondary school education system in the country.
“In view of this development, Bowen University has resolved to set up a full boarding co-educational High School in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State with a mission and vision to offer academic excellence, Godliness and leadership education training for an affordable fee.
“Nigerians are tired of our youngsters, the future of the country, being involved in various social vices. So, Bowen university is setting up a school to refine our young children in the right perspective of life as our vision is to catch them young to ensure a peaceful environment for teaching and learning in our universities in the country. We want to raise children who will be role models in our society.
“To meet the set goals and objective of our dreamed high school, ultra-modern scientific and Information Computer Technology teaching and learning facilities have been procured to pursue the set goal. Parents will be fully involved in the day-to-day running of the school and the human resources for the school will be adequately sufficient, academically and morally qualified to handle the children as teachers and local parental in the school.”
